How big is each group?

The communities who join in each Internationalist destination vary in size. However, all groups consist of talented, passionate and interesting people who are likely to share many of your interests. Each Internationalist chooses a destination, or group of destinations, based on interests, work schedules, timing, etc, so our group sizes vary.

What do the Internationalists provide?

Accommodation:

We set up accommodation for your 4 week stay in each city. You may choose a single or share room, normally with shared bathroom facilities. We work to situate the group in modern buildings within easy reach of the local attractions.

A Work Space:

This is a program designed for people who will be working on their own projects or as remote employees. We will set up our own shared space or access to local co-working space to make sure you able to work when and how you need.

WiFi:

We speed-test our shared work spaces and accommodation providers to make sure you don’t have to worry about down time. 

Social Gatherings:

The community is what makes being part of The Internationalists fun! We bring the group together for social gatherings in each destination, you’re sure to have new friends and contacts for life.

Events:

Many of our destinations are timed to coincide with local events, festivals, adventure experiences. We coordinate participation for all those wanting to get involved.

What is not included in the price?
  • Flights to and from the destination you visit.
  • Meal and entertainment costs.
  • Transport and any extra travel you undertake while you are there.
  • Travel Insurance.
  • A Job – We are not an employment agency.
How much does it cost?

Each destination varies depending on local conditions. We aim to make the 4-week stays as affordable as possible, but comfortable enough that you are not slumming it.

There is a $1,000 USD deposit payable to secure your place on the trip. This is non-refundable, but we waive this deposit for any subsequent internationalist destinations you attend, you’re part of the community!

Why join the Internationalists?

The Internationalists 4-week live and work programs are designed for people who want to add spice to their work life. You may be taking a short remote-work break from your office, or you might be starting a new business and be looking for more inspiring surroundings and company. Either way, the Internationalist program brings a element that cannot be found by planning your own trip: Community. The people who join an Internationalist destination all share many common interests around their approach to the modern work environment. They network, build friendships and often create work related alliances which last long after the trip ends.

Are there dates or deadlines for my application?

Nope. We review applications on a rolling basis each year.

Do I have to speak English to join?

While you certainly don’t need to be fluent in English to join one of our community destinations, you should have basic English conversational skills.

Do I need a job to join the Internationalists?

Yes, though it doesn’t have to be a normal 9-to-5 job. Many of our attendees are not full-time employees of a company in the traditional sense, they include freelance workers, entrepreneurs and location independent employees. The Internationalists provide 4-week work and travel stays, it is not just a travel program.

Travel:

What are the accommodations like?

Accommodations vary, but within each destination you may choose a single or share room, normally with shared bathroom facilities. Sometimes the accommodation is a large villa, other times it can be apartments. It really depends on the destination.

We strive to arrange accommodation which can deliver on the following:

  • Comfort – the most comfortable we can achieve within an affordable budget.
  • Convenience – close to the whatever makes the destination special.
  • Collaborative – You will be sharing the building with others and we want to make it a fun experience, not a cramped inconvenience.
What if I need to leave the destination early?

You are free to come and go from the destination as you like, this is not a bus tour. However, the 4 week program is non-refundable once it has begun.

Can I travel to more than one of your destinations?

Of course! Look at the destinations as a menu of places to break up your year. Once you have joined one Internationalist program, you will never need to pay the deposit again, you’re part of the community!

Are the destinations safe?

We arrange stays in destinations which do not pose an obvious risk to the average long-stay traveler. As always, basic street smarts always apply, just as they do in any North American or European city. There is always some level of risk inherent in international travel. Using common sense and being aware of your surroundings goes a long way. We also advise you check your country of citizenship’s national travel websites for tips or warnings about any destination you visit.

How do I apply?

  2. We will contact you to schedule a short meeting via Skype.
  3. Skype meeting to answer any of your questions and confirm travel specifics.
  4. Your booking is confirmed with payment of the deposit.
What are you looking for in attendees?

We don’t restrict our groups to any particular formulae, but our communities are generally made up of people who are open to new experiences and love sharing the group experience. Most of your fellow Internationalists will be interesting talented and passionate people. Our group experiences are not solo travel so it’s important to be tolerant and have a outgoing social spirit towards other people, whether they are your fellow travelers or locals in the destination.
